JSON Formatter
JSON Formatter takes minified, tangled or broken JSON and makes it readable — or squeezes it back down for an API payload. It also validates the document as you go and points at the exact line where something is wrong, which turns a vague parse error into a fix you can actually make. Everything runs in your browser, so your data is never uploaded.
How to use JSON Formatter
- Paste your JSON into the input pane, or load a .json file from disk.
- Press Format to indent it, or Minify to compress it into one line.
- Use Validate to check the structure and get told precisely where it breaks.
- Copy or download the result — your data never leaves this device.
JSON Formatter FAQ
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser using local JavaScript. Nothing you paste is sent to a server.
Why does it say there is an error?
JSON is strict: it needs double quotes on keys, no trailing commas and no comments. The message tells you the line and column to look at.
What is the difference between Format and Minify?
Format adds whitespace and indentation so humans can read it; Minify removes all whitespace so the payload stays small for APIs.
