OCR PDF

OCR PDF recognises the text inside scanned or photographed documents and turns it into real, selectable characters. Once processed you can search the document, copy passages out of it, and index it properly instead of carrying around a picture of a page. It works on any text-bearing scan, and the original layout is left untouched.

How to use OCR PDF

  1. Upload the scanned PDF you want to read as text — it must contain a single file.
  2. Press OCR PDF; the server runs recognition across every page.
  3. Wait for processing to finish — large scans take a little longer than normal files.
  4. Download the searchable PDF and try selecting a word to confirm the text layer is there.

OCR PDF FAQ

What does OCR stand for?

Optical Character Recognition. It detects printed text in an image-based PDF and rebuilds it as a real text layer.

Which languages are supported?

OCR handles most Latin-script languages well and recognises many others. Accuracy is best on clean, well-lit scans at 300 DPI or higher.

Why can I not select text after OCR?

If a page has no readable characters — a photo of handwriting or a very low-resolution scan — recognition may return little or nothing. Rescan at higher resolution and try again.
